We have a ton of products at Spinneys that will help to treat, sooth and cure your skin. But they’re not capable of doing it on their own. While we’d like to think of skincare products as a touch of magic that will instantly transform bad skin, they need to be used correctly.
Here are some tips on how to keep your skin looking fresh and blemish free.
Do – shave down, not up
When it comes to shaving with a razor, there’s a common misconception that suggests you need to shave against the grain (read: upwards). But while this results in a quick, close shave it’s most likely to irritate sensitive skin.
Shaving downwards – with the grain – means less itchiness and helps to reduce unwanted spots.
Don’t – squeeze spots
The temptation to remove a pus-filled spot is hard to deny, especially if it’s on your face. They’re not pretty, and the sooner you can pop them, the less self-conscious you’ll be out in public, right? Well, not entirely.
See, squeezing spots may get rid of the short-term problem, but it will leave your skin inflamed and can result in scarring. They’re often only temporary blemishes, so resist the urge to blow them up.
Do – wash your face every day
There are a number of products that you can apply to your face to create healthy looking skin. But some good old-fashioned soap and water can have surprisingly amazing results.
Even if you don’t shower or bath every day, you should still clean your face. It will remove the grime build-up and remove the impurities that can create nasty spots.

Eat your way to healthier skin
Don’t – ignore your skin type
Not all skin types are the same, which is why there are so many skincare products to choose from. What works for someone else, might not work for you so you should pay attention to how your skin feels after each treatment.
If you feel fresh and revitalised after using a product, then you should likely carry on using it. But if your skin is left sore or itchy, then ditch the item immediately rather than soldiering on.
Do – watch what you eat
You know that old phrase “you are what you eat”? Well, it’s true. If you eat a lot of greasy foods then you can expect oily skin as a result. Chocolate, and other sugar-packed treats, can also have a negative impact on your skin and cause spots.
Healthy skin requires a healthy diet.
Don’t – use products on the wrong body parts
It may sound simple, but there are still those that will use body lotion on their face and face lotion on their body. Each formula has been specifically created to bring out the best in the area of skin it has labelled on the bottle.
Used incorrectly, the products can cause more harm than good to your skin. So always check the label before use.

Do – take your makeup off before bed
We get it; you’re tired after a long day. The last thing you want to do is stand in front of a mirror as you intricately remove layers of make-up. However, take those extra minutes to clean it off and your skin will thank you.
Keeping makeup on overnight can block pores and create spots. Even worse, the resulting collection of bacteria can form acne that will need to be treated medically.
Don’t – touch your face
Well, obviously, you’ll inevitably need to touch your face at some point in the day, but make sure you do it with clean hands.
Every time you touch a surface or item with your hands, you inadvertently have traces of it waiting to be spread somewhere else. If it ends up on your face, it can result in dermatological problems.
